They are young, ecologically oriented and uncomplicated: bike and food couriers. They work in a dynamic environment, a growing sector. Yet this branch is threatened by low wages caused by billion-dollar corporations like Uber or Deliveroo who aim at taking over the market. A collective labour agreement shall prevent this development: since 2019, the new CLA for cycle courier services applies, which guarantees minimum wages and fair working conditions.
As a logistics trade union, syndicom was intensively involved in a collective labour agreement with the bicycle courier companies. The CLA has now been signed jointly with the social partners and is legally binding. The minimum wages and social benefits established therein set the standards for the branch. The social partners' aim is that the collective agreement is declared generally binding.
In order to approach the objective of a generally binding CLA, syndicom intends to broaden its membership base. Employees can only develop the CLA further if they are united and well organised.
